Transferrins are glycoProteins found in vertebrates which bind and consequently mediate the transport of iron (Fe) through blood plasma.They are produced in the liver and contain binding sites for two Fe3+ ions.Transferrin is encoded by the TF gene and produced as a 76 kDa glycoprotein.Transferrin glycoProteins bind iron tightly, but reversibly. Although iron bound to transferrin is less than 0.1% (4 mg) of total body iron, it forms the most vital iron pool with the highest rate of turnover (25 mg/24 h). Transferrin has a molecular weight of around 80 kDa and contains two specific high-affinity Fe(III) binding sites.

| Typical data

As the OD values of the standard curve may vary according to the conditions of the actual assay performance (e.g. operator, pipetting technique, wash technique or temperature effects), the operator should establish a standard curve for each test. Typical standard curve and data are provided below for reference only.

| Repeatability

Intra-assay Precision (Precision within an assay):CV% < 10%; Inter-assay Precision (Precision between assays):CV% < 10%

| Recovery

The recovery of Rat TRF spiked at three different levels in samples throughout the range of the assay was evaluated in various matrices.

| Linearity

Samples were spiked with high concentrations of Rat TRF and diluted with Universal Diluent to produce samples with values within the range of the assay.
